Hyderabad Weekend Getaway – Kotepally Water Reservoir

Hello Hungry Travellers,

How was your weekend? My friends always keep saying that there is not much to do in Hyderabad during weekends, no place to go to, so most of them end up going to the mall or a movie at the max. So, I tried looking for a place where one can go and come back in a day, which will also qualify as a long drive. 80 km is no joke ;)(Distance is from Gachibowli) The timing was just right because it rained a lot and thus the reservoir was full and the sight was amazing.

You can start early morning. The road will be of Vikarabad towards the anantgiri hills.Take the ORR, it has the proper boards showing the way to Vikarabad. If you want a stop over you can stop at Haritha resort. This is a secluded resort and is not very opulent but serves the purpose just right. Near to this resort there is a beautiful place, I am afraid I don’t know its name but its dead gorgeous as shown in the pics. You can see all the greenery, lake and if lucky a train passing by. To reach this point instead of going to Haritha, keep going straight till you see a white temple from where you should take a left where the roads get narrow. Go straight on this road till the end 🙂 Enjoy the view and spend as much time as you want.

From here come to the main road and take the Kotepally village route and keep going straight. The roads are good so you need not worry. It’s a joyful ride as you can decode from the pictures 🙂 There are no boards to the reservoir so you want to depend on Google maps or can ask locals. The best time to go there is Monsoon to see the water flowing in all its glory. The sight was pretty awesome. Remember it is not commercialised so do not expect any thing there. You will need to take your own blankets or chair or something to sit. There were only two cart shops selling minimal things like – Bhutta, Bhel etc. You also get a Kayaking option, although I refrained from it 🙂 It was a nice place to spend some time and watch the nature. For ladies, preferably wear some traditional clothes, if you don’t want all the eyes on you 🙂

The Salad we took came very handy as we got hungry by evening 🙂

All in all we do have places in Hyderabad where you can spend your weekend. Watch this space till the time I disclose another location.

Happy Travelling and Take care

Keep Smiling and Love
